Nisiros – an idyll we would never have found without this tour
5:00 a.m. We cast off from Naxos. The weather forecast doesn’t bode well, but with a strong northerly wind blowing at our backs, we make faster progress than expected. It’s like surfing today and the boat almost flies over the waves. To avoid the forecast strong winds and the high waves that are supposed to come from early afternoon, we decide to go straight again, so another full compass run.
Around Naxos in the north, then south-west course, leaving Amorgos on the right and heading for the southern corner of Kos, south of which there is the small island of Nisiros. In the afternoon we are already there, borrow a buggy and go on an exploration tour, up to the volcano, here you can go into the crater. It stinks of sulphur, but it is a natural spectacle. No, it is no longer active. Then up to the highest mountain, into a village and enjoy the view, once around the island. Really great. Back in the small fishing harbour, where we are allowed to moor among the colourful fishing boats, we call for a tanker and refuel. Of course, by chance, the friendly all-rounder in town not only has the buggy rental, but his mother also has a restaurant. A delicious meal and a last anchor beer. Finally a good night’s sleep. Then, as always at 5:00, we cast off and set course for Rhodes.
